It's a general issue with crappy CD writers (and in my experience
anything older than 1 year is crappy, and even brand new, stock drives
can be lemons.)

If there were a way to make 1/2 the maximum speed the default when
burning an ISO, I think that would be good. 1/2 max really might be a
good sane default in general, though for raw audio CDs full speed isn't
really an issue. If people really want the extra speed they can turn it
up, and it would definitely prevent a lot of wasted CDs.

Need to be able to determine/slow down the CD burning speed.  This is 
especially important for ISO files, which generally must be burned to CDs quite 
slowly.
