I have a similar problem with a G33: boot begins normally and at some point it is in text mode and (I think) flickers a lot with the error message: failed to restore crtc configuration -22. I was able to switch between text consoles (I could see the ttyX and login prompt briefly) and finally by playing between consoles it finally decided to start xorg (it might be completely unrelated though). I attach the dmesg if it can help.
