I followed the instruction that should have appended a description of my sound system to this report. Although it must be standard procedure, I firmly believe that Kamus is chasing a 'wild goose', as the problem must be related to the coding of the CHECKBOX for the Mute switch obtained when I right click on the speaker box at the very top right of the screen. This particular checkbox does not respond to simply tapping the touchbad on my Asus A2H (A2500H) laptop, as other checkboxes do. Note that the checkbox for the Mute Switch in the main 'Sound Preferences' module reponds correctly! Note that the requested procedure forced me to initiate a new bug report because Launchpad doesn't provide me with the option of continuing the dialog for the previously reported bug. This Launchpad problem is related to Bug 465774.
