I found a solution - I had to start the Sync engine. for some strange
reason it did not want to start on it own. But aftwer doing the
following and replicating it I am happy to say this works.

If you haven't done so already, please make sure that the sync-engine is
running. You can do this by opening up a terminal and start it with:

$ sync-engine

Ubuntu users should not have to execute the sync-engine manually: it
will be launched automatically by dbus when its presence is required. If
you do want to start it manually under Ubuntu, you should execute

$ synce-sync-engine

my thanks to      http://www.synce.org/moin/SynceSetup/SyncEngine
