Dear Lars,

I can not understand why there is a big problem with new Ubuntu versions
and my Notebook. The very stable version ist Ubuntu 8.04. The newer
versions make my notebook crash. I can use the maus but nothing more can
be selected and every thing looks like a standing picture on the screen.
I have done a RAM test (memtest) before installing and every thing
looked absolutely ok and the test has been passed successfully. I
thought that it may be a Kernel problem. I have tried an older Kernel
version and it looked to work better with the 8.10 Ubuntu version but it
was not perfect. With an older version my notebook crashed sometimes but
not always. I have downloaded the newest Ubuntu version 9.10 and tried
to install it but it crashed during the installation. Nothing works
anymore and I have re-installed the version 8.04 again in order to have
a functionable version on my notebook. Do you have a new Idea what I
could do more to solve the problem?

Your name sounds German. If you are German, I would prefer to write in
German language. If you are in Germany we can make a phone call (I will
call you) and will describe more about the syptoms of the crash on my
notebook.

I thank you very much and wish you all the best.

With best regards
