...and now a whole bunch of failures in a row, failing differently. I'm only now running after trying 2.6.20-6-generic without the serial console. 2nd time was the charm.
Now, 2.6.20-6-generic seems to boot reliably after not trying 2.6.20-8-generic anymore. Hopefully there's some common thread in all this.
