Installing that had no effect. I hold to the assertion that the bug *must* be in PulseAudio: If I disable PulseAudio completely and play sound directly using ALSA, it sounds *just* fine. The only problem is that most ALSA applications do not output 5.1 channels directly, and PulseAudio is required in order to get all of my speakers to output sound correctly, at least so far as I am aware. The ALSA configuration that I used in the past to do 5.1 sound without PulseAudio does not seem to work any longer in Karmic.
