On my laptop (Compaq V3018TU) with AC power plugged in and "When laptop lid is closed: Suspend" set in g-p-m preferences, when I close my lid, the laptop does not suspend immediately. When I reopen the lid, it suspends. The laptop suspends directly when using the Suspend option from the user menu at the top right.
