Public bug reported: Ubuntu 9.10 - Intel HD using the VIA VT1828S audio chipset. The Asus P7P55D motherboard input doesn't work and I cannot record anything. I have a second mic on the front panel and this isn't even picked up by the OS, but it works in Windows XP.
