Same problem with an Asus M51VR. With ubuntu 9.04, i haven't problems , the fn key works and disabled the mousepad.
Now, with 9.10, i've problems. The fn key (F9 in my laptop and a with a quickkey) doesn't works. With Gsynaptics i can disabled the mousepad but it enable after any key was pressed. This only woks with the workaround of Anita.
