I read that this relates to Jaunty where it's limited to a 16GB SD card, possibly when mounted as /home. This killed suspend/resume for me on Jaunty. As for Karmic, I can suspend or hibernate *once*, but subsequent suspends/hibernates result in taking me to the login screen until I restart
