Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox
After, unfortunately, not realizing it wasn't safe to accept upgrades from Ubuntu without getting outside advice, I allowed Ubuntu to upgrade my computer. Since that day, last Sunday, many things are different, and not better. I don't know much about computers, so I didn't realize one should ignore upgrade offers. Before the upgrade, a window opened, on the screen, after I inserted a CD. It asked did I want to use Rhythmbox, and I'd click on Okay. Then in Rhythmbox there was an option on the left hand menu wihich included "Unknown" and I discovered, by trial and error, that this was the key to playing CD's with my system. Once I'd clicked "Unknown" the Rhythmbox window would fill in the track information and little by little I learned how to control it. Now the "Unknown" option is totally gone. Where is it? Nothing else is there that brings up the information for the CD. What do I have to do to get back the ability to play my CD's??? It is really unbearably frustrating, after the work I've gone through trying to learn to use my computer the past four months, and now so many things don't work. Why on earth is this happening? PLEASE tell me if I have to do something to get back the simple ability to play inserted CD's. It shouldn't be this hard, should it? Thank you in advance, if you have any idea why "Unknown" disappeared, or how I can access it if it's hiding somewhere obscure, or under a name I don't recognize. I clicked everything there, and nothing is remotely related to playing the CD's.
