It seems like the alsa options have very different effects, even on identical systems. In my case, appending "model=toshiba" (which should be the best, imho) caused only silence and appending "enable_msi=1" broke the sound completely (i.e. there was only infinite noise/buzz, very annoying). I hope I will still be alive on that day when sound on linux "just works"...
