Update: So I changed the GRUB 2 configuration to allow me to enter the
menu. First I went to the command line and entered the boot commands for
the default entry one by one. I found that the second command: "if [ -n
${have_grubenv} ]; then save_env recordfail; fi" is the one that
produces "error: out of disk". When I removed that from the default
entry, my system booted fine.
