Public bug reported:

Well, okay, not permanently. But to many Mac users, this would call for
a trip to an Apple store, where they would surely be charged some crazy
sum of money as the warranty is long over on this model.

Machine in question:

iMac G4 roundbase, 800MHz
768MiB system memory
60GiB HD

On shutdown, the system does not eject the CD as other systems will. No
response from eject button on keyboard. Pressing enter results in a
line of characters appearing on screen: ^[*, where * is a letter, but no
response from the machine otherwise. Turning off the system required
holding the power button for 5 seconds.

After doing this, the system would not power on again until I opened the
enclosure and removed the backup battery. Once this was done, the
system started normally.

Quite alarming for a live disc that isn't supposed to make any changes
to one's system. I will attempt to repeat it soon, when I have the
patience.
