I think this bug should handle the first problem and open a new bug for the second.
For point 1 I have started the following upstream bug report: http://groups.google.com/group/vim_dev/browse_thread/thread/3fd44a777cfaa050# I have assigned this bug to Ubuntu Norvegian Team as the can help us with the issue of the Norwegian language struggle ** Changed in: ubuntu-translations Assignee: (unassigned) => Ubuntu Norwegian Translators (ubuntu-l10n-no) ** Tags added: import ** Tags removed: apport-bug i386 ** Description changed: Binary package hint: vim When scanning the import queue in Launchpad Rosetta for issues that need manual intervention, I found the following issues with the vim package, which prevents a smooth import into Launchpad Rosetta and causes the Ubuntu Translation Coordinators to manually adjust or remove .po files. - 1. the no language code is obsolete and has been split into nb and nn. + 1. the no language code is obsolete and has been split into nb and nn. The no.po file in the vim package is actually Bokmål, so the file should be renamed to nb.po in order to get imported into Rosetta automatically. - - 2. Several .po files exist with different encodings, like SJIS. CP936, etc. Those are completely useless for Linux users as translations get converted with iconv into the encoding the user is using anyways. We prefer to use UTF-8 for import into Launchpad Rosetta. So, if there are UTF-8 encoded .po files available in addition to other encodings, please rename the .UTF-8.po files to .po and remove the other encodings. - Affected files in the vim package: - - cs.cp1250.po -> remove - ja.sjis.po -> remove - pl.cp1250.po -> remove - ru.cp1251.po -> remove - sk.cp1250.po -> remove - uk.cp1251.po -> remove - zh_CN.cp936.po -> remove - - pl.UTF-8.po -> rename to pl.po and overwrite the existing one - zh_CN.UTF-8.po -> rename to zh_CN.po and overwrite the existing one - zh_TW.UTF-8.po -> rename to zh_TW.po and overwrite the existing one For general guidelines how to ensure smooth imports into Launchpad Rosetta, please see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/Internationalisation#Verifying%20translation%20uploads ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Thu Aug 6 10:05:59 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 Package: vim (not installed) ProcEnviron: - LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8 - LANG=en_US.UTF-8 - SHELL=/bin/bash + LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8 + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-5.24-generic SourcePackage: vim Uname: Linux 2.6.31-5-generic i686 ** Changed in: ubuntu-translations Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: ubuntu-translations Importance: Undecided => Low -- Translations: no.po should be nb.po, please remove obsolete encodings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/409765 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
