BTW, I just tried xscanimage and got the same result. I do not know if this rules out xsane and makes it a sane issue or not. I am just learning my way around Ubuntu, so it may not matter. But xsane is a frontend to sane, which is what xscanimage is. Dores xsane use xscanimage?
