Glad to hear it's working for you.

To answer your question, it's most likely a driver bug in the channel
logic.  Could be related to scanning.  Not sure without digging into the
code.  It's certainly not meant to behave that way.

If it happens again, please use "ubuntu-bug network-manager" to report
the problem as it'll collect the same info as the afore-mentioned
apport-collect.
