Installing and setting up Wicd solved the problem. After doing some
research on Network Manager I have discovered that it has not reached a
stable version yet (no version 1.0). Why is Ubuntu shipping with some
very buggy applications which are used for critical tasks (eg managing
network connections)? I am all for Ubuntu using Wicd (currently at
version 1.6.1) instead of the very buggy Network Manager. Are there any
plans to completely ditch Network Manager in the future for Ubuntu?
