Can I suggest that until/unless a long term solution is found we set the
dialog at 'System > Preferences > Startup Application > Startup Programs
> Add' to open by default to /usr/bin? That seems to be the most
reliable solution for now. This 'adding startup applications' has in
reality been a general bug for years now. Surely it's time to do
something?
