SCott, you do not understand the problem. The workaround you describe is already in place by default, the audio devices are already part of the Audio group.
That doesn't matter however, if the audio is still given acl permission to a specific user, when that acl is removed, audio applications get cut off, regardless that they have had group permission all along.
