Can you give some more information on what you are doing exactly? Particularly it would be great if you could give an example file and an action to perform when that file is opened that causes the crash.
Also, since you are using Kubuntu, you could try removing the package openoffice.org-kde. (I.e. type "sudo apt-get remove openoffice.org-kde" in a terminal). There are already two bugs about crashes in openoffice.org that seem to disappear when removing that package.
