The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_NetstatusApplet"
I got this message and after looking for /usr/lib/gnome-netstatus/gnome-netstatus-applet and not finding it, had a look for gnome-netstatus-applet in synaptic , yes it was in synaptics database but it wasn't installed on my system. installing it made the error message go away. It must have been left in the configuration when I upgraded from jaunty to karmic.
