Public bug reported:

This bug is specifically for the i8k driver, I guess.

The fan on my laptop quit working after a normal software upgrade some
time ago. I didn't notice it at first, so I can't pinpoint the date, but
it's been off for a couple months. This causes the laptop to overheat
after a couple hours, or less, depending on load.

When I first installed Ubuntu on this machine, the fan was off, but
installing gkrellm and its i8k plugin fixed the problem, but this
workaround has stopped working somehow.

Also, these readings seem wrong:

$ i8kctl
1.0 (null) C281Q61 62 -1 1 27660 57840 0 -1

Please let me know if there's any data you need or procedures I should follow.
I'll do whatever it takes. This is really driving me nuts!
