** Summary changed: - [karmic] Kernel Panic with: iwl3945 + wpa_supplicant + Bonjour on Pidgin + [karmic] Kernel Panic with: iwl3945 + wpa_supplicant + Bonjour [on Pidgin or Empathy]
** Description changed: + STATUS: I believe it is now harder to trigger this bug; investigating that. + The rest of the text is unchanged. + First of all, https://wiki.edubuntu.org/KernelTeam/CrashdumpRecipe wouldn't allow me to get any crash dump. It'd seem to get stuck in a cycle. I don't know what the kexec'd kernel was supposed to do and after it repeating the same actions twice (boot, apparent attempt to start X (?), and restart of the cycle), when I saw zero disk activity for 1 min or so I gave up. Anyway, steps to reproduce: * disable NetworkManager [might work with it, however my wireless network dislikes NetworkManager] * connect to the WPA-EAP wireless network with wpa_supplicant * run Pidgin and enable Bonjour * screen will turn black and freeze * CAPS LOCK will start blinking Running 'avahi-browse -rt _presence._tcp' doesn't trigger the crash. Important notes: * last time I got graphics corruption * the kexec'd kernel while loading would fill the screen repeatedly with: «[timestamp] iwl3945 <PCI IDs or sth> Microcode HW error detected. Restarting.» «[timestamp] iwl3945 <PCI IDs or sth> Microcode HW error detected. Restarting.» «[timestamp] iwl3945 <PCI IDs or sth> Microcode HW error detected. Restarting.» «[timestamp] iwl3945 <PCI IDs or sth> Microcode HW error detected. Restarting.» and so on. If you wish I'll crash my system again happily (lol) but I'd like to know what to expect from the kexec'd kernel & some more tips.
