I've experienced this problem as well.

However - I originally noticed it when running Vista Basic. The machine
will not always start up when the lid is opened or when the power button
is pressed. Pressing the button for an extended period performs a reset
and the machine will normally start after that.

The problem is roughly the same with Ubuntu as it is with Vista, so I'm
thinking this is a hardware issue, not an operating system problem.

I've temporarily dealt with the issue by telling Ubuntu to hibernate
instead of going into standby/sleep. This allows the session to survive
the reset cycle. Not perfect, but it works. I haven't found any firmware
fixes for this machine - so in my case the machine is most likely being
returned.
