This worked for me: 1 - copy file /var/lib/gdm/.gconf.defaults/%gconf-tree.xml to another place (just a backup) 2 - boot from a LiveCD ou USB 3 - copy file /var/lib/gdm/.gconf.defaults/%gconf-tree.xml over the original
