So if these hotkeys are not attached to the main keyboard event device, they might have a separate one. Can you please do "sudo lsinput" and check which names also sound plausible? (E. g. on Sony notebooks there is a "Sony Vaio Keys" device which is responsible for the hotkeys). Please check those again with keymap -i.
