Ack! My notes say the RT2561 chipset I have is actually version
RT2561ST NOT RT2561SE as I stated above.

** Summary changed:

- CNET CWP-854 wifi PCI card with RT2561SE chipset hangs system / fails to find
network
+ CNET CWP-854 wifi PCI card with RT2561 (version RT2561ST) chipset hangs
system / fails to find network

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

The "source package" appears to be the rt61pci module or perhaps one of
the modules on which rt61pci depends. This is the module that is
- associated with my PCI Card according to log messages (I think SE
+ associated with my PCI Card according to log messages (I think ST
indicates version, so this is a verison of the RT2561 chipset). My
system is up to date as of today. Problem persists.

  lsb_release -rd gives:

  Release: 9.04

I expect my system to be able to suspend or hibernate without hanging.
I also expect my wifi to still be working when I wake from suspect or
  hibernate.

+ What happens instead:
When I boot my machine, the wifi card works. I can connect to the Internet.
But:
  a) If I suspend or hibernate, about 2/3rds of the time the system hangs
either as it is being suspended / hibernated or as it is waking up. About
1/3rd of the time, it comes back, but now wifi is not working and at times no
device on my PCI bus is working (e.g., the CD drive won't work). Trying to
restart wifi at this point by restarting networking or the wlan0 interface
doesn't fix the wifi.
- b) I seem to avoid the system hang altogether and can suspend / hibernate a
few times (but not always) and still get wifi back by issuing the following

few times (but not always) and still get wifi back by issuing the following
commands:
  Before suspend:
  sudo ifdown wlan0
  sudo modprobe -r rt61pci

  After suspend:
  sudo modprobe rt61pci
  sudo ifup wlan0

I'm attaching a file showing what my message log shows after I suspend
and unsuspend with the CWP-854 PCI card added to my system (on an
instance when the system does not hang, but wifi becomes unusable). The
file then shows another set of message log output for when the card has
been removed from my system. Between the two of them, it should be
possible to figure out just what additional error messages are being
generated by the card (there are error messages even without the card).

  Hope this helps.
