Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Karmic, when I switch to a virtual terminal via ctrl
+ alt + F1 or the like, I get a weird sequence of illegible chars. It
appears to be an odd pattern of flashing underline chars "_" as
described on:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8323583#post8323583e

I see no VT/tty1 information, but when I type the underline char changes
to the text I write.

I've had at least 6 comparatively critical bugs since upgrading to
Karmic, and I unfortunately don't have the time to keep dealing with
them, and am going to have to do a complete reinstall of Hardy or Debian
on my home servers.
