After replacing kernel parameters as explained in comment #4 on 18Nov2009 2pm IST quiet splash with acpi=off
no hang. But now (20 Nov2009 2pm IST) when I am working in Firefox and use the side scroll bar to scroll down fastly GUI logs out. But it is not hang as before and able to log in back and work without restart. Luckily due to firefox restore I got all my browsing webpages back. Hope that it may help to solve the issue.
