FWIW this is fixed in the experimental Gobby 0.4.9x series. It allows different people to have the same color, but, more importantly, the user only chooses a hue value for the color. This value is then made readable by adjusting saturation and value (in a HSV color model) locally at each site, taking into account the background color of the user's theme.
