Update 3: (sorry for spam, but too much info beats too little) Restarting Anki solved the problem temporarily. I can now copy from Anki to the gnome terminal again using both Ctrl+C / Ctrl+Shift+V and mouse- selecting + middle-buttoning. Coincidentally, Pidgin is still malfunctioning although Anki worked. Restarting Pidgin did not fix Pidgin, though.
