This problem began with an upgrade to kernel 2.6.31-14-generic. I have
no HP printers nor any other USB devices plugged in.

Finally, the mouse (mice) that dont work:

Nov 23 03:47:17 lucas-laptop kernel: [ 1762.756042] usb 7-1: new low speed USB
device using uhci_hcd and address 5
Nov 23 03:47:17 lucas-laptop kernel: [ 1762.876031] usb 7-1: device descriptor

Nov 23 03:47:17 lucas-laptop kernel: [ 1763.316049] usb 7-1: new low speed USB

Nov 23 03:47:17 lucas-laptop kernel: [ 1763.436043] usb 7-1: device descriptor

One mouse is corded USB, the other is cordless, both work fine on my
8.04 machine.

I hope this helps find a fix.
