Okay. I reinstalled through synaptic package manager. This did not resolve the issue with the dialog box buttons.

Status in “firefox-3.5” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Binary package hint: firefox-3.5 Since the last update I received for firefox (to version 3.5.5), whenever I click a link that prompts a dialog box to open or save a file, the OK and Cancel buttons in the lower left of the dialog box are narrow rectangles with no text in them and they do not work when I click on them. All I can go with the dialog box is close it using the x in the top right corner. I've not found any solutions to this in my research on the web. My work around for now is to use konqueror, but it has some drawbacks with regards to display of yahoo home page. Maybe the next patch or version of firefox will correct my issue?
