Once network-manager reports it's connected to the network but you are
unable to connect to hosts on the Internet, can you ping the default
gateway? Is there even one set?

Once the connection is established, you can find out by running the 'ip
route' command in a terminal. Please run this command and post the
output here if possible. You should also try to ping the default gateway
(which is the IP that will be specified in 'default via' in the output
of 'ip route'.
