It was not getting sound into either. I appreciate your responding so well, but I finally gave up and reinstalled Jaunty Jackalope. Koala is way too buggy. In addition to the sound problem, I was having keyboard freeze issues. I honestly think this release was a huge mistake that's going to damage the reputation of Ubuntu.
Now that I'm back with a flawlessly working 9.04, I'm happy again.
