I don't know if this little bug report / comment (my first) will help, but I'll try just in case.
I have a reasonably recent install of Ubuntu 9.1 Karmic, with all updates as of 2009-11-29. I also have a dodgy cable modem+router supplied by my ISP, they seem to regularly crash and need re-booting, an issue I will have to try and fix sooner or later, but for now am just trying to live with. I have a couple of computers running windows and ubuntu. Problem: after I re-boot the modem+router, Ubuntu has will not auto-reconnect, and when I click the little wireless icon (top left, next to mail and sound icons), I get a list of available wireless networks including my own, so I assume ubuntu knows they are available, but it can't/won't connect. I click on my wireless, and it just brings up an annoying little window saying "disconnected". Windows (on my laptop) will auto-pickup the wireless connection after a modem+router power cycle so I know that side of it is working. Now I'm a bit of a newb with Ubuntu so I don't really know what else to try getting this wireless to stop being "stuck" in a disconnected state, but a reboot does the trick and re-connects the wireless. I think its a problem with the wireless manager (or my use of it at least). I have read a few other peoples bug reports and some of them recommend using Wicd network manager, so I am giving that a try. Currently my 5 minutes of testing says I may have fixed my issue by changing network managers. Maybe the default network manager needs some improvement to help handle us people with dodgy wireless hardware. Anyway, since this is my first post here, I'd just like to say thanks to all the people who work to make/improve Ubuntu. It is very, very good, and getting better all the time. -- Network manager doesnt reconnect automatically after a power cycle to Wireless router https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/463258 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
