It had been installed before, and I went back to the Synaptic package manager to do a reinstall - which was successful. Again I was prompted to configure the connection to mysql server from Python Poker 2.5, and had the same problems.

Type '\c' to clear the current input statement. mysql> mysql seems to be responding normally. Thanks for that, but I still have no luck configuring the connection with Python Poker.
