My theory is that the DVD is gently scrambled to behave in exactly this way, either because of a geographic region thing or possibly a prod to buy something to make it work. In any case, apologies for the year's delay! I'm busy now with FreeBSD-8.0, and will get back to Ubuntu when my new Mobo arrives :-) Chuck Bacon
