This problem only happens with the bottom panel for me, not the top panel. But I just found something interesting. I use synergy (1.3.1-6ubuntu1, from Universe) to remote control this system. If I use synergy, the panel will only expand if the auto_hide_size is set to 2, not when it is 1. If I use the machine's touchpad, I can expand the panel even when auto_hide_size is 1. Seems like the cursor doesn't go all the way down to the edge under remote control?
