I had the same problem in Debian testing, grub2, version 1.97~beta3-1, md and 
lvm configuration.
Building grub2 from bazaar repository didn't help.
The delay occurs in biosdisk.mod file somewhere in grub_biosdisk_rw while 
accessing disks, especially fdd.

Simple solution for me was to completely disable Floppy in bios.
(In my case I even didn't have floppy connected to controller, but enabled)

Now there is no delay when grub2 is starting.
