As far as I can see there does (now at least) exist a rosegarden.desktop
in /usr/share/applications

However, this file does not adhere correctly to the Desktop Entry
specification
(http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Standards_2fdesktop_2dentry_2dspec)

Firstly, the file contains an unnecessary comment line
Secondly, the file defines a deprecated 'KDE' entry.

The spec would recommend replacing

# KDE Config File  
[KDE Desktop Entry]

with simply

[Desktop Entry]
