Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

Similar Bug(?): Bug #111856

I have thunderbird set to check Newsgroups every 30 minutes (or so).
However, every time I select a folder to view, it checks the server for
messages and displays "There are no new messages on the server." in the
Status Bar. This isn't my issue (although the newsgroup provider might
not like the extra, useless bandwidth being used).

The issue is what happens when that check is finished: The Stop icon,
Status Bar progress bar, and the activity indicator on the Menu Bar all
become active and do not stop until the Stop icon is pressed.

There is obviously no activity as all my mail/rss/ntp servers/feeds have
all been successfully checked and the Status Bar has printed the
outcome. As with the similar bug I linked to above, the Menu Bar
indicator can be stopped by going into & exiting the 'Customize...'
menu; however, the Status Bar progress bar and the Stop icon continue as
if there is still activity.

The initial startup check; all recurring, timed checks; and any manual
check does not cause this behavior. Once this behavior is produced,
clicking the Stop icon will prevent it from occurring further in the
current thunderbird session.

This is a general annoyance, but could cause confusion for users that do
not make the connection that everything has been successfully checked.

** Affects: thunderbird (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
