Tony, just to double-check some things: First, you are running Ubuntu with a virtual machine of Windows (or the other way around?). Second, have you tried installing the 'linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic- generic' package and rebooting? Lastly, I noticed that your ICE958 device is set as on in the mixer settings. If I remember correctly, I have heard that sometimes it can cause conflicts and turning it off helps.
