Martin, Thanks so much for looking at this. I noticed you used the command python, whereas was using the command python2.6 for my tests. Is the default Python in Lucid Python 3.0.x maybe? Just a guess at this point. It may be a silly mistake in my packaging, too! The Karmic one definitely works well for several end users...
I am currently creating a new Lucid VM from the daily ISO and will retest there as soon as I can and report what I find. Probably in the next hour or so.
