Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub

It says in the man page
"grub-install copies GRUB images into the DIR/boot directory specfied by
--root-directory, and uses the grub shell to install grub into the boot
       sector."

1) it copies the images to DIR/boot/grub actually.
2) it assumes in this statement that you are specifying an option with
--root-directory, which is optional
3) most of this information should appear in the details of option
--root-directory instead.

Whilst I'm here, I may as well point out that it says

"--root-directory=DIR
install GRUB images under the directory DIR instead of the root
              directory"

which is vague "under the directory", circulatory, and uses the term "root
directory" to refer to two different
things (/, and the install directory) without distinguishing between them.

try to remember that you're not the only people who have to use your
software.
