After the last 3 days I have some things to add. I needed to connect to WEP 
protected wireless network and could not do that.
* network-manager just kept asking for the password and did nothing.

I get messages like this in syslog repeated 3 times and then network
manager says it can't connect.

* wicd did ok with validation but could not obtain IP address.


Other laptop with Broadcom wifi adapter and ndiswrapper in use could connect 
and work.
