This bug has hit me as well. I get the same 'ERROR: No TX rate available.' in dmesg when trying to connect on 5GHz to a Xirrius AP. At some point, it switches to 2.4GHz and the connection works well.
Also, is there a way to force a given connection on 5GHz or 2.4GHz using network manager?
