I had the same problem. Commenting out the last line in "/etc/modprobe.d
/alsa-base.conf" didn't work for me. So the temporary solution I came up
with is a small shell script that constantly plays a silent wav file to
keep the sound card from turning off. I don't have any popping noise
anymore because the soundcard is always playing a silent audio clip.
I've attached the temporary fix for anyone who wants to try it. Just run
it as startup.
